death note and other stuff

I am sick. I think I am clearly dying of fic-withdrawal. Only three days left!!! My to-read list is now absurdly long and I will need some sort of awesome superpower to ever get through it. Obviously, my life is very tragic and complex XP

Anyway, so I watched the Death Note live action movies.


Things I liked

*Misa was awesome.
*Raito and L were both hot, though not so much like I pictured them. Still, hot is good!
*Matsuda was FREAKING ADORABLE!!!
*So was Ryuk!! He was perfect, really.
*The Chief didn't die. That made me happy.
*The last bit with L, where he had the chocolate and the picture of Watari. SO SAD!!!
*I liked that it was L who outsmarted Raito, though I have other issues with the ending (see the next section for further details). I guess either way, it was really Raito's arrogance that got him in the end.
*Takuda was way less annoying than usual.


Things I didn't like so much
*There wasn't really any relationship/friendship between Raito and L, they seemed more like casual co-workers than eternal rivals. To me, Death Note is about different ways of seeing justice, and those ways are personified by Raito and L, so without their bond it seemed to be missing the heart of the story to me.
*No handcuffs!!! That's probably really a part of the previous point, but still!!! Also no tennis and no "you're my first friend" and so forth. I'm repeating myself, aren't I. I think basically this point should be 'NO BL!'
*I don't believe that Raito, no matter how crazy he got, would purposely kill his father. He didn't kill Sayu when it was logical for him to do so and it seemed a little OOC.
*I didn't like that Ryuk basically betrayed Raito in the end. In the anime when he wrote Raito's name in the Death Note, it was to save him from a life in prison, and I loved that, I loved that Ryuk cared enough about Raito to do that for him.


Overall though, I liked it.


I've also started watching Cowboy Bebop and Prince of Tennis, because I couldn't choose which to watch first. My to-watch list is nearly as long as my to-read list!!! I don't really have anything to say about either as yet. I don't have the instant OMGLOVE for them that I had for Naruto or Death Note or whatever, but I like them both.

I haven't watched the movies yet because sadly, I haven't found subtitled torrents. I'd like to, the L actor is really pretty. *g*

I didn't like that Ryuk basically betrayed Raito in the end. In the anime when he wrote Raito's name in the Death Note, it was to save him from a life in prison, and I loved that, I loved that Ryuk cared enough about Raito to do that for him.

Uh, you might want to prepare for a(n unpleasant for you) surprise if you read the manga. :/ The reason I don't like the anime ending is, among other things, the fact that they changed Ryuk's characterization. And that's about all I can say without throwing different sized spoilers around.

I found the subtitled torrents on www.mininova.org, there weren't a heap of seeders so it took a little while, but I got them after a while. The L actor is pretty, and so was Raito.

I'm thinking when I read the manga I might stop after... I think it's volume 7? It's too sad otherwise!

If you liked the second part of the anime at all, I definitely recommend reading the all of the manga (no matter how much you'll miss L. ;__;). ^__^

It's a lot better than the anime: more plotting and more characterization for the supporting characers. I noticed that they left out several rather important plot-points and twists in the anime.

Yeah, I'll probably end up reading all of the manga, because I can never leave things once I start them. I hate having gaps in my knowledge of things!!!
