I still haven't got around to watching the new Shippuuden episode, mostly I think because my brain is still boggling from the new chapter. I don't understand how people can have the presence of mind to be writing essays and so forth about things, when personally, I just can't get past the lolz.

This is just for Naruto, because if I tried to fit in all my ships for all my fandoms, it might break LJ.

One True Pairing Ship:
NaruSasuNaru. I just have this thing about angsty boys in love. And pretty boys in love. And best friends in love. And rivals in love. And people in love being ripped asunder. And dying for each other, and trying to kill each other, and totally not being able to communicate because they're socially awkward, but understanding each other anyway. And crying in the rain! And so on.

Canon Ship:
Orochimaru/Tongue. One is just not complete without the other.

"If this happens I'll stab my eyes with a fork" Ship:
SasuSaku. They are Naruto's two most precious people, I totally don't approve of leaving him out like that. Sasuke seems to think of Sakura as a sister, when he bothers to think of her at all, and I think that now Sakura has grown up a bit, she probably realises that while she'll always care for Sasuke, a relationship would break her brain on account of he's gay for Naruto and probably also Itachi.

"You're a sick bastard" Ship:
ItaSasu. Just like NaruSasu, only with added incest. And, you know, murder. Sasuke's just so freaking obsessed, it's kind of cute. Also OroSasu, because Sasuke is Orochimaru's little cupcake. With chocolate icing and sprinkles. OroSasu is just full of lolz. And pretty much any ship involving Kyuubi wins: OroKyuu, ItaKyuu, NaruKyuu, SasuKyuu, you get the point.

"I dabble a little" Ship:
I have a few of these. I like GaaNaru a whole lot, especially if Jealous!Sasuke is thrown into the mix. Actually just about anything is better with Jealous!Sasuke, even like Mulder/Scully or something. I also like NejiHina, TemaShika, MadaIta, Team 7 OT3 and OT4 (and OT9), any combination of Team Hebi, and the list goes on.

"It's like a car crash" Ship:
MadaraxKyuubi!! They are like epic rivals of great awesomeness and all that. Again, it's like NaruSasu, only with added crack. SakuKarin has awesome possibilities, as does OroIta. And anything involving Gai. Or Tobi. HEY - TOBIGAI FTW!

"Tickles my fancy but not sold quite yet" Ship:
I like KakaNaru in theory, like when Naruto's a bit older and they grow closer and whatnot, but I haven't really found any good fic. Same with KakaSaku. Probably also GaaLee. I like the idea of it, but the thought of Lee with anyone sort of freaks me out. Oh, and YonKaka, which I've been meaning to read a bunch of fic about but haven't got around to yet.

"Makes no canon sense but why the hell not" Ship:
ItaTen - he's Konoha's bad boy, she's an innocent young kunoichi, what will happen when their paths cross? Hot smexing! Also, ItaHina - just like ItaTen only with double the Bloodline Limit!!! I never used to like SasuHina, but I read some good fic about it recently and now I'm sold. And NaruKarin, because she likes hot guys, and hey, Naruto's hot! And TobiGai, because the idea just occurred to me and now I'm obsessed.

"Everyone likes it but I just don't feel it" Ship:
KakaIru, definitely. I mean, I guess the concept is cute and all, but I just can't see why it's so darn popular. And Iruka just doesn't do it for me, he's too nice. Also NaruNeji, which just seems like NaruSasu-lite to me.

"When all is said and done" Ship:
Naruto loves Sasuke loves Naruto forever and ever the end. (Or maybe TobiGai.)

Oh yes, I totally forgot about KakaIru for the everyone else likes it section. It's got such a HUGE following, and I'm all whaaat? Especially considering they barely ever interact in canon, but well.

ITAHINA? LOL! This reminds me of this weird fic I read ages ago where Itachi knocked up some random Hyuuga, and their kid ended up with PINK SHARINGAN. I am not even kidding.

The KakashixIruka phenomenon has ruined quite a few NaruSasu fics for me. Why do they always have to be there as a secondary pairing, especially if it's an AU and they are their respective parents? There I am reading a NaruSasu fic and then the author starts to bore me with KakaIru cuteness and apparently everyone is gay. Why is it always KakaIru anyway, I'm yet to see IruKaka.

I totally agree with you about KakaIru, they are ALWAYS the side pairing. Sometimes I'll get halfway through a fic and I'll be like 'phew, no KakaIru!' but then suddenly, out of nowhere there'll be this domestic KakaIru scene talking about the state of NaruSasu or whatever. It DEFIES LOGIC!! And why is *everyone* always gay, except for maybe like Kiba or Shika or something. I just don't get it.

Yeah, exactly. I did read one fic where Naruto got sent to gay camp, but when everyone in Konoha, or a general high school AU, is suddenly gay, I just don't get it.

But, if it were NaruSasu, wouldn't that leave Sakura out? Anyway, I'm actually the reverse on this; I think Sasuke seems to think of Naruto as a *brother*. And there's lots of references in canon that suggest that Sasuke thinks of Sakura and is concerned for her.

That said, I'm trying to dig into some NaruSasuNaruSasu whateverorder, ROFL. I checked out "Skinless", it was good, but the fight scenes were waaay too protracted IMO... do you have any recs?

LOL Sorry, just saw your post above mine. I asked that same ordering question before--I still don't really get the point of having different orders. But basically there's the dominant/submissive theme in the relationships (this pops up a lot in anime/manga, it's something to do with traditional Japanese giver and receiver thing... um, yeah XP). So NaruSasu is where Naruto takes the pursuing/dominant role in the relationship, and vice versa for SasuNaru. NaruSasuNaru and SasuNaruSasu are meant to imply equality in the relationship, and the order depends on who takes the initiative. I think it's all pretty ridiculous. :P

ItaHina: Come Full Circle Think that's the only ItaHina I've read that was really good, but then again I haven't come across very many. :P

AHHH, OK, thank you! Hmm. So I assume that concept would also apply to het stuff? I only ever see the "order" of these things seeming to matter with shounen-ai or yaoi? Guh, maybe I'm just overthinking it, ROFL.

Technically, I think the concept would also apply to het. Traditionally though, I usually see het pairings in male/female order. The order seems to be more of an issue for shounen-ai/yaoi pairings. *shakes head* I don't understand, the participants are the same people either way--but it's something that's traditionally been a big issue in Japanese anime/manga, although apparently it's beginning to become less significant nowadays. I haven't been in the Naruto fandom that long, but I have heard stuff about pairing wars between NaruSasu fans and SasuNaru fans, which makes no sense whatsoever. XP

I hope you like the fic, I really enjoy Hinata's portrayal in it. ^^

I think the ordering thing matters more with yaoi because it applies to who takes which role in a sexual context. So, it is generally only relevant in porn, though a lot of people tend to make the submissive partner into a total girl, which is why I like NaruSasuNaru, because I don't think either boy would let the other one treat him like his bitch!

Yeah, it would leave Sakura out, but in my happy little imaginary world, Sakura is happy for them :P I don't know, I just sort of feel as if Sakura grew up in a happy sort of home environment, with friends around her, whereas Naruto didn't. So, for me it's more of a big deal for Naruto to feel left out, he's such a sensitive little chappy! It broke my heart in that bit, after Sasuke left, where he was all 'you really like Sasuke, huh?' because you could just tell that he has so much love that he'd do anything to make his friends happy, even if he got hurt, you know? So, it's not that I don't think Sakura deserves Sasuke, and you're right, there have been a few really lovely canon moments between them, but I suppose I just feel as if it lacks some of the passion of NaruSasu (or whichever order).

I don't think I've read 'Skinless', but if it's recs you want, I can certainly help you out!!! (You'll possibly be sorry you asked :P)

The Sound of Dreams by Zrina. To me, this is the definitive NaruSasu fic. It's set in the canon-verse, and it starts while Sasuke is still with Orochimaru. It's really long, but totally worth it, everyone is really in character and it's just... well, it's awesome! It's complete, but she's working on a sequel. Seriously, though, if you only read one on this whole list, make it this one.

The Bridge I Crossed by l'atelier. I actually just read this yesterday. It's AU, Sasuke is the CEO of a corporation and Naruto goes to work for him. It does get a little OOC in places, but I really like the dynamic between Naruto and Sasuke in it, and the latter half especially is quite well-written. This is complete too.

Disease of Love by Nao_Angel. This is a high school AU, sort of. They're not really in high school, they're on a school trip to the beach! I really like the group dynamic in it, as much as I like the NaruSasu, though the GaaNeji is a little weird for me. It's a WIP and I don't think it's been updated in forever, but it's still totally worth it.

Bandage by motemote. This is a college AU, where Naruto, Sasuke, Sakura and I think Ino and Kiba share a house, and then they start a band. Also a WIP.

Life Savers by Moerae. This is more pre-slash, as Sasuke and Naruto are both about 5 years old or so. It's so cute! Yondaime never died and Sasuke has a family and it is EXTREMELY CUTE!!! It's a WIP as well, but because each chapter is like a stand-alone sort of drabble, it doesn't matter so much.

Blackmail and Betrayal by Zrina. This is an AU wherein Sasuke is a police detective and Naruto is forced into a life of crime by Orochimaru. It's a little dark in places and I don't love the characterisation of Sakura, but it's pretty much awesome. It's a WIP but I think there are only a few chapters left.

Lost in Translation by Rasengan22. It took me a couple of chapters to warm up to this fic, but now I love it. Naruto is on holiday in Japan with Sai, who is his photographer boyfriend, but Sai has to go off and take photos so Naruto is left all alone and bored in a strange country. Enter Sasuke, the coolly aloof musician guy. I love how both boys are so, well, lost, in this fic. It's also a WIP.

The Nerd by animehead. High school AU. Naruto is the cool, popular boy and Sasuke is a total nerd. Kiba bets Naruto that he can't make Sasuke cool, and it's totally not as cliched as it sounds, it's pretty darn awesome! WIP, but there's only a couple of chapters left as well on this one, I think.

Roommates by FastForward, and the sequel, Blood and Tears. Sasuke and Naruto are forced to be roommates in college and they hate each other. Blood and Tears is much darker, but they're both awesome. And complete!

Out of It by Ms Trick. This is an AU where the whole gang are in a mental institution and Naruto and Sasuke are roommates. It has a short sequel, Landing.

LOL, okay, that should be plenty to be getting on with!!!! :P

I don't actually have any ItaHina recs though, sorry!

XP I could probably rec you a few KakaSaku if you want; when I first came into the fandom, it was originally the ship I read most, although I seem to have fallen away from it a little. :P ItaHina! You should try Come Full Circle, it's the only ItaHina I've found so far that I thought was good. Word on KakaIru, I can't see it at all in canon, although I suppose if I read good fic with the pairing I wouldn't mind it so much. :P
