Date: 2006-09-04 09:22 am (UTC)Didn't appreciate the image he broadcast to the world, but did appreciate that he was a decent bloke with a family trying to do the right thing by the environment.

Date: 2006-09-04 09:29 am (UTC)But the rest of the world actually thought he was...dare I use these words...'fair-dinkum'. *shudder* Way to show our country as being a bunch of khaki wearing loud mouth animal loving ocker bogans.
I mean, sure he is dead and anyone dying is reason to mourn and to remember the life lost, but it doesn't mean we automatically have to respect what he did for himself or this country.
There are plenty of people who die every day who are good family men and who do things for their country. But they manage to do it WITHOUT totally embarressing their country (excuding Americans...teehee!).
I'm pretty sure I'm trying to make a point but you know, meh, I forget things easily.
I suppose this essay is just to say LIGHTEN UP and go ahead be sad, but I'm sure most Australians will agree (and any who don't, don't abuse me. I like to make sweeping generalisations ALRIGHT!) that he didn't do much for us...really. In the long run.
(and PS. Can the news PLEASE stop showing a thousand stories on him. WHAT THE HELL? If John Howard died no one would care)

Date: 2006-09-04 09:55 am (UTC)I had no respect for the guy when he was alive. I thought he was a disgrace to the nation. I don't see why I should act all sad when I'm not.

Date: 2006-09-04 10:35 am (UTC)The guy has made me feel sick to the stomach for years, representing a false image of Australia to the rest of the world. Which I don't expect you to get, as you aren't Australian and obviously are a fan of the guy. I just don't think you should be so quick to attack me.
I also don't understand how anyone can actually be surprised that a man who is a 'Crocodile Hunter' was actually killed by one of the animals he was interfering with.
I think that is all.

Date: 2006-09-05 08:32 am (UTC)People are saying the same to me. At least on the internets they are, in RL everyone else thinks the same as us. People are strange.
Is your icons Johnny Depp in 21 Jump Street? Because that is pretty darn awesome.

Date: 2006-09-05 08:53 am (UTC)I know what you mean. At work there were already stingray jokes going around and such. Sometimes, I don't understand why things are so much more dramatic on le internet.
