Stuff I've watched/am watching
Aug. 10th, 2010 05:09 pmWell, mostly I'm just testing out the new lj iphone app. It's much better than the old one so far! Anyway, I'm very sick and bedridden and couldn't go to uni today. It's frustrating. How long is it since I got sick now? Six years? My specialist thinks its 20 years but either way, you'd think I'd be used to it by now and realise there'd be days like these. It's still annoying though!
Right, I'm going to see if this thing can lj cut!
It was okay but it bugged me for some reason. Why did it bug me? I think because whenever there's a love triangle, I think the person in the middle should be more straight up with the one they don't like. It felt like Yuuki knew Zero's feelings but didn't want to deal with them because she liked having him around. I felt the same in Hanadan, I thought Rui got treated badly. Love triangles should be treated carefully!! I liked Zero but he got too emo. I don't know, I didn't hate it but it seemed to be lacking something.
The President chick bugs me. You're a company president, stop dressing so trashy for work! I like her retarded ex-fiance guy, he's funny.
Why does KJH have stupid hair and a gay earring since he came back from bumming around? He was much hotter before. His relationship with the secretary is very cute but I think she'd be happier with the barista dude.
Why do Korean dramas always get so emo in the middle? It's like cute and funny beginning, emo middle, lame ending. Maybe from now on I should only watch the first 8 or so eps.
Though, I can't pick how this will end. I think maybe KJH will be with the secretary but I'm not sure.
I was worried that Angelina Jolie would try to adopt Jun but he seemed to escape safely. I like her better now, she was nice to jun, unlike how that famous soccer guy was rude to Sho that time. I think Jun and Angelina Jolie should have a cute strong-faced baby together!!
I can't think of anything else I've watched lately and it's nap time now!!! I wonder if this will post okay.

Date: 2010-08-10 09:15 am (UTC)In the same line of though, I have another issue to pick with kdramas. You worded it really well, it's almost always cute beginning, angsty middle and lame ending. That's the reason I've practically given up on trying to watch contemporary kdramas. With historical the problems are usually much more real and angst worthy and there might actually have plot, why else set it in other era. Also the father is almost always violent tyrant and the guy who treats the girl the worst is the one to get her, because those rare moments when he actually considers her feelings are oh so special. Hanadan had similar themes, yet it didn't bother me there. Maybe because it was meant to be over the top and he made the concious decision to treat her well pretty early in the series.
I got a bit ranty here. Oops?

Date: 2010-08-13 02:37 pm (UTC)I totally agree with your rant!! XP That was the one redeeming thing about Coffee House, there was no stupid overbearing parent subplot!! I think it wasn't as annoying in Hanadan because the characters were sympathetic as well. In the few contemporary kdramas I've watched, at least one of the rivals in the love triangle were unlikeable, whereas in Hanadan, both Domyouji and Rui were well-balanced and likeable, plus you always knew she was going to end up with Domyouji, it was just that they had various obstacles to overcome before it could happen. And Rui was always a bit wishy-washy about his feelings for Makino, whereas Domyouji was the opposite. Though, the amnesia plotline was annoying.
Anyway, I think I'll lay off the contemporary kdramas for a while, I have a real "seen one, seen them all" kind of feeling about them now!! I could even stand the lame endings (to a point), but all the whiny angsting in the middle always seems like it's just there to fill out the required amount of episodes, and that bugs me! Plus, I need to catch up on Naruto!

Date: 2010-08-13 07:21 pm (UTC)I've tried with Full House, Bad Love, Prosecutor Princess, Hello My Teacher, Delightful Girl Choon Hyang, very little Cinderella Sister and possibly other things. Some of them had funny/cute/intriguing beginnings and after that it was all angst, rinse and repeat, annoying social implications etc and in most cases I hated the male lead.
Hm with Hanadan it was made clear at once that F4 are not the nicest people around. I didn't like Rui for Makino after he returned, not sure how sincere his feelings were and he felt scheming not in a nice way. Although I have not read the manga, I felt the changes the drama made were to its advantage. The stupid memory loss thing must have been from the manga. There was no calling your lover birdbrains, telling them scary stories before bed and generally making fun of them so prevalent in kdrama. On the other hand I have developed quite a love for historical kdramas.

Date: 2010-08-13 02:39 pm (UTC)Yes, and it doesn't notify you of comments either! But it will be handy for when I'm bored at uni!

Date: 2010-08-10 06:35 pm (UTC)RE: love triangles. They're often horribly done, imho. You either have Awful guy - MC - Great dude or the poor girl who just can't choose!

Date: 2010-08-13 02:42 pm (UTC)Yes! I think that for a love triangle to work, the two rivals need to be equally likeable in different ways, otherwise you wonder why they can't choose when it's perfectly obvious!

Date: 2010-08-13 04:29 pm (UTC)(plus it might be cultural differneces. Brazilians and Argentinian always come off as arrogant, even when we're not. I mean, the very few times we're not convinced being Brazilian or Argentinian = being awesome by sheer nationality.)

Exactly! Or give the main character reasons not to leave the unlikeable one. That's why, say, Kimi wa Petto works so well.

Date: 2010-08-13 02:45 pm (UTC)Vampire Knight... it's a bit meh. I'm catching up on Naruto now to help me erase the pain of Coffee House!! XP

Date: 2010-08-13 03:38 pm (UTC)Naruto bores me nowadays, even with Minato and Kushina appearing. I don't get into the manga anymore. :| Bleach's storyline has been more interesting (Gin!). I've also discovered Supernatural recently; after spending the past several months drifting away from Naruto and flirting with random fandoms like FMA and Merlin, I think SPN is my new main fandom. XD also you should totally watch the new BBC Sherlock Holmes series, I think you'd like it. :D

Date: 2010-08-13 03:48 pm (UTC)I'm only up to about ep 50 of Shippuuden, they've just been to Sound and seen Sasuke for the first time and he was all "hah! I am way too cool and emo for you guys in my awesome nappy-type thing that's held up with rope!!". I figure if it gets boring, I'll just stop watching it! I'm more-or-less caught up with the manga, but I'm not that fussed about it either.
SUPERNATURAL IS SO AWESOME!! And SPN fic is great too!! It was my main fandom before anime/jpop. I still watch the show but I'm totally out of the fandom now.
Ooh, Sherlock Holmes! I'll look into it!

Date: 2010-08-13 03:57 pm (UTC)lolz I haven't watched the anime since forever. >_>; I miss the awesomeness of Part I.
omg I know! The fandom's insanely prolific, I love the ficcage. *_____* Even canon hits a lot of my kinks--canon AUs of all things, time-travel, apocalyptic scenarios--I'm looking forward to season 6. It'll be the first TV show since season 1 of Heroes where I'm following along episode by episode.
BBC Sherlock, all three episodes. General consensus is that eps 1 and 3 are def worth watching, ep 2's mediocre.
