So, I've been avoiding the internet for the past week because I didn't want to be tempted to listen to the new album before it got here. I downloaded the 5x10 concert before my dvd came and then I wasn't terribly excited when it got here. So, I've been watching out the window ever since Tuesday when it was shipped and now IT'S FINALLY HERE! Yay. I'm about to listen to it, so I shall write my impressions of it while I'm listening. XDDDDD
Disc 1
1. Movin' on - I like it. I really like the Ohno solo bit in the middle. And I like the rap. It seems like the kind of rap I could actually learn for karaoke, as opposed to like Believe which is totally impossible. I shall put this on my walking mix. I think it's a good album starter.
2. Mada Ue Wo - nice vocoder effect on the voices. Nice random English - eye shadow? Like you put on your eyes? I think this is one of those songs that will really grow on me. I like it.
3. Refrain - ah, this is really pretty!! And the Japanese is relatively easy, so I can mostly understsand it!! XP I want to make it my weekend homework project to translate the album and then check it against other people's translations to see how wrong I was, I don't know if that's a bit ambitious though. Ah, this so is so Arashish.
4. Troublemaker - I'm skipping this, as I've already heard it. Not that I don't like it! I especially like the sui-sui! And how the single shot of Nino is on the page for the Troublemaker lyrics, lol!
5. T.A.B.O.O. - omg, this is awesome! Oh, Sakurai, your English is getting really good!
6. Circus - very cute and poppy! It reminds me of another song... a KAT-TUN song. Or maybe something from the 80s? Not in a bad way. I like it very much. Damn, Aiba has the sexiest voice on the planet. Also, if I'm playing Mannequin 5 with their cover outfits, I think I'd pick Ohno. I like the stripes. And what is up with Sho's shirt? Or is it a jacket? Maybe a shicket?
7. Gift - Oh golly, the sincerity in Jun's voice!! This is going to be awesome in concert! Jun will do that awesomely cheesey smile and Aiba will cry and Sho will do that face like he's trying to look wistful but you can tell he's thinking about ramen. This song is really beautiful. Ohno's solo near the end is making me cry, lol. Ah, Arashi!
8. Everything - skipping this too. I like it, but I like the live acousticish version a lot more.
9. Come Back To Me - omfg, Jun! I love you!! You are very useful! And you've obviously been spending too much time with Sho ==> put your hands up party people??? lol! This is so freaking adorable! Maybe best Jun solo ever! There's a lot of vocoder on this album, isn't there. Comparatively, anyway.
10. My Girl - skipping again. This song makes me want to cry too because it reminds me of the 5x10 concert. <3
11. Magical Song - ah, this was my most anticipated song, and I'm not sure about it. It's cute and Aibaish but... I'm not sure. I don't dislike it, I was just expecting something different, I think. I will probably love it after a little while.
12. let me down - oh golly, the Aiba picture on this page is the most adorable thing ever! This song is a little bit funky, isn't it. It reminds me of earlier Arashi. Oooh, is it a shicket and a matching vest??? On the very last page of the booklet, the bulge in Sho's pants is way too visible. And it looks like Nino has a pot belly!
Disc 2
1. Monster - skipping.
2. Don't Stop - This song is okay, it doesn't leave a super big impression. I don't dislike it, it's kind of just like a song on an Arashi album, you know? Sho looks like a fluffy chicken sometimes, doesn't he.
3. Shizuka na Yori ni - oh, this is lovely! Especially the high notes. Nice job, Riida!! This goes on my "good Riida" playlist! It's a very pretty picture of him too.
4. Mukae ni Iku yo - This song is okay too. It sounds like it should be a song on an AU CM, doesn't it have that kind of feeling? The picture of Ohno on this page is the most adorable thing I've ever seen. I like the mouth organ bit. It's a quite soothing song, isn't it.
...why does my mother have to call right before Nino's solo???? Ahh!
5. 1992*4##111 - jazz!Nino? Okay, I love it already. I love it a lot. Nino is super pretty in the picture too. Have I mentioned how much I love his pretty new hair? Because I love it a lot too. It's a little bit gospel too, isn't it. Gospel/jazz. Gozz? Ah, this song is so happy! <333333333333333
6. Sora Takaku - also skipping. The Nino picture is cute though, I like the glasses.
7. kagero - I like it. It's very easy to listen to. It will probably end up one of those songs that I always listen to and think "oh, I like this song, what is it?".
8. Summer Splash! - that picture is the most adorable thing I've ever seen!! Right, I love this song, it's very fun.
Overall impression
Disc 2 is much more mellow than disc 1, isn't it. The whole thing has a very epic-type feel to it. It seems fitting with the more mature image they've been trying to go with, but still Arashish. It's quite electronic too, isn't it, like lots of effects and bleepy-bleep type things. I like it.
It will be interesting to read this again in like six months or something and see how my impression has changed, I find with a lot of Arashi songs I feel very differently about them after a while.
OMG, I'm going to be so late to the doctor!!

Date: 2010-08-11 10:47 pm (UTC)I'm a horrible fan, I know, but to be quite honest, especially on the albums, there are a lot of Arashi songs that I don't really enjoy. I love their very up-beat, poppy, inspiring stuff (like "Happiness", "Wish", and "Pikanchi Double") and their rock-ish stuff (like "Truth"), but I don't quite like most of their slow songs or their very hip-hop based stuff, which the non-singles on the albums often seem to be. (Yes, I'm very picky, I know. :/)
Anyway, your review of the album helps a lot in my decision as to which songs I might want to try listening to! ^-^ Just out of curiosity, are there any songs that you'd especially recommend to someone with my tastes?

Date: 2010-08-13 02:20 pm (UTC)I'd definitely recommend Jun's solo! It's written by the same guy as Super Fresh, apparently, and it's super-poppy and fun.
...actually, this might be easier if I sort of categorise the whole album, song by song, right? I'll skip the singles and Sora Takaku.
movin' on: kind of inspirationalish and one of those Arashi about Arashi songs, it's rockish, with a fairly short rap part in the middle. I think it has the same sort of feel as "Sora Takaku". I give it 4 stars.
Mada Ue Wo: I'd put this halfway between rockish and hip-hoppy, if I had to say what other song it was like, I'd probably say "How to Fly", the B-side from One Love. I'd definitely give this one a try, it's in my top three on the whole album. 5 stars.
Refrain: Ballad. It's a bit filler-ish but other people seem to like it. It's a bit like "Still" or, you know, one of those AU CM songs. 3 stars.
T.A.B.O.O: Sho's solo. Very guitar-heavy, kind of hip-hop/rock/funk fusion, it's hard to say what's more predominant, the rock or the hip-hop but it's kind of worth it for the abundance of random English. XP Kind of a bit like "Tell me what you wanna be" only with more hip-hop. 4 stars.
Circus: Pop/disco, musically and lyrically it's a bit like "Monster" only more circus-y. It definitely reminds me of an 80s pop song, only I still can't remember what. I'd rec this one to you for sure. 5 stars.
Gift: Ballad, a lot like that "Green" song they wrote for Eco Week. Also like Blue or Sirius. Probably best you give this one a miss! 3 stars.
Come Back to Me: Jun's solo. Best song ever, definitely try!! You will be happy forever after you hear this song! It's kind of like the younger, cuter little brother of "Yabai Yabai Yabai", or maybe Yabai's love child with "Super Fresh". Very poppy, there's a patch in the middle where Jun attempts to rap but it's by no means hip-hoppy. 5 stars for sure. XD
Magical Song: Aiba's solo. Disco, it reminds me of an early 90s Madonna song, though again I can't think which one. It took me a couple of listens to like this, but it's definitely grown on me. It's hard to compare it to another Arashi song... maybe Lucky Man, only more disco-y? Lots of synthesizer. 3.5 stars.
Let Me Down: Kind of pop-funk, I don't like this song all that much, it reminds me of the filler songs on the earlier albums, maybe something like "Raise Your Hands" or "Tokyo Lovers Tune Night", that kind of thing. 2 stars.
Don't Stop: Same sort of thing, though less funky and more disco, but still a bit forgettable. Has a "Dekiru Dake" kind of feel. 2.5 stars.
Shizuka na Yoru Ni: Ohno's solo. Ballad, it's similar to Take Me Faraway only not as good, I think, and with more of an early 90s power-ballad kind of feel, like with the keyboard sound and stuff. 3.5 stars.
Mukae ni Iku yo: another ballad. Reminds me a lot of "Season". Nice enough song, but a bit whatever, I wouldn't rec it to you. 3 stars.
1992*4##111: Nino's solo. A jazz-gospel kind of feel, very up-beat. It's not really similar to any Arashi songs, at a stretch I'd say "Fight Song", but only because of the trumpets, but really it's a bit more Billy Joel or something. XP It's a cute song. 5 stars.
kagero: Pop/borderline rock, a "Tokei Jikake no Umbrella" kind of a feel, a little bit "Truth". I like this song more every time I listen to it. 4 stars.
Summer Splash: sort of disco/hip-hop, if you can imagine that. I liked it when I first heard it, but I skip it every time it comes on, it's a bit like another filler song. I wouldn't go out of my way to listen to it. 3 stars.
So, to sum up, I'd rec to you Mada Ue Wo, Circus, Come Back to me, 1992*4##111 and Kagero, then if you were desperate for me, go for movin' on, T.A.B.O.O. and Magical Song. Definitely don't bother with Refrain, Gift, Shizuka na Yoru ni, Mukae ni Iku Yo, and as for the other three, you're probably better off just listening to "How's It Going" or something. XP I hope that helps!!
