I am drunk. This is my drunken post.

I went out and got very drunk and it was jolly good fun. Then I came home and the result of that was drabbles. They are probably god-awful, but I figure I should post them anyway. They're both in present tense and not really about anything at all, but yay, for I wrote stuff!!
L doesn’t really want it, and he knows he doesn’t, but he can’t help but wonder what will happen if he just goes with it. That’s always been his weak point.
Raito lifts an eyebrow, just a fraction, but L’s been studying him long enough to know that it means something. He knows what it means, he just needs to figure out the intent behind it, if it’s real or just a part of the plan.
He doesn’t really want it, but sometimes he thinks he needs it.
It’s nothing that logic can solve, nothing that can be clarified with reason, and they both act surprised when it finally happens. L knows by the curve of Raito’s lip, the set of his shoulders, that he’s been expecting it for some time. He tries to be offended, but decides it’s not worth it. He’s good enough to know that Raito’s not just playing him.
They’re equals, and that’s what makes this different, what makes trivial things not matter, and sometimes L wonders if he’d be disappointed to realise that Raito really isn’t Kira.
They stare at each other in the dim light of the monitors and L knows. He knows it’s something more. He knows the ending won’t be happy. He’s knows it’s a war and he’s probably losing, but Raito smiles and he finds it hard to care.
It’s what comes after that bothers Naruto the most. What comes after Hokage, what comes after killing Itachi. It keeps him awake at night.
Sakura sighs in the mornings, and there’s shadows under her eyes as well.
“Don’t worry,” Naruto tells her. “In the end, we’ll get him back.” But he thinks he knows better now, because endings are never happy.
Sasuke kills Itachi, just like they knew he would. He kills Itachi and he still doesn’t come back.
Naruto wonders where his unfailing hope comes from.
“It was never about Itachi against us,” Naruto says to Sakura as they follow a dead-end trail. “It’s about Sasuke against himself.”
Sakura nods like she understands, but Naruto’s not so sure she does. Her suffering has been different from theirs. Sometimes he wonders who it is they’re trying to save.
Sometimes they find him and he smiles. Sometimes they find him and he fights. Most of the time, they don’t find him at all. Naruto wonders if they could use their time better, but in a way, this is training too.
He grew up at some point. He’s not sure if he likes it or not. He wonders if they do manage to get Sasuke back, will he be the same person, because Naruto’s pretty sure he’s not and Sakura just keeps getting stronger. If they’re ever a team again, he can’t see how they’ll function. They’re both so used to working twice as hard to make up for the missing member. Sometimes he wonders if Sasuke is even real.
Sakura’s not there when they meet for the last time. Naruto knows it’s the last time, though he couldn’t say why.
“Hey,” he says, because the other words won’t come out. They’ve been said before.
“You need a hobby,” Sasuke tells him.
Naruto wants to ask him why, when searching for Sasuke has taken him so far. He wants to reach out and touch Sasuke, to make sure he’s real. He doesn’t.
“I’ve done everything I intended to do,” Sasuke says, as if without Naruto talking he needs to fill up the space.
“You should be happy then,” Naruto says.
Both boys stand in silence, and Naruto can’t help but think this is harder than it should be. He wonders if it’s one of those times when they fight or the other kind.
“I wish I could kill you.” He doesn’t know why he says it, he only knows it’s the truth. It’s cold in the forest at night and he wishes Sakura were there. She always knows the right thing to say.
“I wish you could too.”
They don’t fight, and Naruto still wonders.
I'm kind of amused that when I'm mind-blowingly drunk, I'm still thinking about these boys! I may post about my drunken revelry later, after sleep, but I'm not so sure it'll be interesting.

Date: 2008-02-20 08:29 pm (UTC)I really enjoyed both! There's something about rivals and unbreakable bonds, isn't there. The Naruto drabble really ended with a punch there. As long as Sasuke is alive, Naruto will spend the rest of his life trying to bring him back, trying to fulfill his promise. :( Why can't they just have sex and live happily ever after?
Anywho, awesome stuff :D

Date: 2008-02-21 03:04 am (UTC)Rivals and unbreakable bonds are like the greatest thing ever! But you're right, they should totally just have lots of happy sex and forget all about their troubles!!
I'm glad you liked it.
Your icon is maybe the most adorable thing I've ever seen in my life.

Date: 2008-02-20 10:42 pm (UTC)I wouldn't call them drabbles though.

Date: 2008-02-21 03:05 am (UTC)I'm not sure why they turned out sad! I wasn't in a sad mood or anything!!

Date: 2008-02-20 11:31 pm (UTC)I keep wondering what Sasuke will do after he kills Itachi (like there's any doubt that he eventually will). Does he die or go back to the village? If it's the latter, I hope that Kishimoto makes it believable. Sasuke did betray his village and coming back without problems would cheapen the series.

Date: 2008-02-21 03:21 am (UTC)I kind of feel like Sasuke won't die, because Naruto is the hero of the story and it's his goal to get Sasuke back, and if Sasuke dies then Naruto has failed. I don't think he'll happily go back to the village either, Naruto's going to have to bring him back, because he promised. And you're right, I can't see them just letting Sasuke waltz back in like nothing happened.

Date: 2008-02-21 01:37 am (UTC)That said, I liked your Naruto drabble. (I honestly am not informed enough about Death Note characterization etc. to know anything about the first one... I really need to refresh my memory. :/) It's good that you made Sasuke not come back to Konoha even after he killed Itachi; that things are still very, very complicated, and just--gah. They are captured so well. :)
(You wrote this while drunk?... I don't believe you. :O Great stuff for being drunk. XD)

Date: 2008-02-21 03:33 am (UTC)I honestly think the DN drabble wasn't so good, it's a bit wafty and not really anything. I think I've been thinking about what Sasuke will do far too much! It bothers me to distraction. I hope it doesn't end up as sad as that though!
Trust me, I was very drunk. I have the mountain-sized hangover to prove it!!!
I'm glad you liked it!!! ♥♥♥♥

Date: 2008-02-21 03:45 am (UTC)I hope Team 7 doesn't end up like that either :/--I like bittersweet endings, but... happy bittersweet endings, if that makes any sense at all. XD And I hope your hangover goes away soon! :) <3

That is a good conclusion! I've been wondering about Sasuke coming back after he's finished his business with le brother and that sentence shed quite a new light on it for me!
